Introducing a New Series

We are pleased to announce the arrival of an exciting new feature here on Murgatroyd hoots.
From this month we will be running a series of introductions to some of our favourite contemporary makers who have a textile leaning. As a means of introduction, the artists who we will feature have all agreed to give us a peep into their work boxes and pick out key items of equipment they can't do without, be it for practical or sentimental reasons. Therefore, you will be allowed a unique 'behind the scenes' glimpse into the makers world and free reign to peer into someone else's work box - which is always hard to resist!

We thought it only fair, therefore, that we let you have a look into some of our work boxes here in the Applewood workshop to kick off the series. As you can see we had a little help from Ginger Bob...
Over time the workshop has become one large work basket so the items in these photo's show bits of equipment we use the most. For example;
The thread beast (of course!), a stitch picker dating back to the 1980's, a wooden knitting needle for tasks which require pushing, poking or pulling, beloved Fiskar scissors, battered Muji notebook and Staedtler fine tip pen for notes & doodles, a selection of favourite needles held in a needlecase made by chum, GracieMay in her signature white linen, an old treacle tin turned into a pincushion, a box which still smells deliciously of soap and a few stray cat paws!
Keep watching this space for the first of our 'Workbox Introductions'!

What a lovely idea Kathleen, look forward to the rest of the series. Could you also include 'best tips' like Anni's thread plait?

Hee,hee! My thread holder has been customized by granddaughters practising plaiting ponies'manes! They have plaited so tightly that I can't pull threads out now.
